A Joint Initiative of Higher and Technical Education Department, Government of Maharashtra and UNICEF Maharashtra with Technical Support from ACWADAM, CEE and Why Waste

Departmental of Higher & Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra & DTE, in coordination with UNICEF undertook the training program / mission on Water Conservation for youth in 13 districts of Maharashtra. It was one day training program to train each Institute’s representative as “Green Club Faculty Coordinator”. The “Training program of Green Club Faculty Coordinators” was for one day and took place on 8th August 2023, in Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering, Seminar Hall, Belpada, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.

The training was attended by representatives from 75 Institutes from all across 13 districts of Maharashtra. The purpose of forming Green Club at Institute level across 13 districts of Maharashtra is to coordinate interventions to combat and face climate change globally, nationally, and at the local level.

While forming the Green Club, it is essential to ensure a balance of all genders and have at least 100 student volunteers registered in the Club. The Club’s membership will be for two years. The participation of members will be recognized at different stages by giving badges during this period and they will get a certificate for participation after the completion of two years.

The student body will consists of one President, one Vice President, and one Campaign Coordinator along with one Documentation Coordinator. Green Club will primarily focus on coordinating with youth in their respective universities and colleges to support environmental activities and projects within colleges and communities as extension services.

The aim of this Program is to empower students to participate in and take up meaningful environmental activities to ensure effective implementation and act as a platform to develop sustainable lifestyles, knowledge and leadership skills.

The Green Club activities will focus on the following themes:

  • Water Conservation
  • Waste Management and Circularity
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Circularity and Biodiversity Conservation

The State secretariat will issue common directives / guidelines to all colleges for the smooth functioning of Green Club and College Administration. District nodal persons from Higher Education, Technical Education & NSS will submit the report to the State Secretariat.

The one day “Training program of Green Club Faculty Coordinators” ended with the commitment towards formation of The Green Club and to strive for its aim and cause by all 75 representatives from across Maharashtra.
