Social Service
The Social Service Committee (SSC) of Pillai University proudly restarted Project PANKH at Zilla Parishad Gyan Jyoti Savitribai Phule School, Podi, on 18th August 2026, marking the beginning of the fourth year of the project PANKH’s flight.
The restart was undertaken after a brief break due to the students’ internship commitments, as well as the closure of the previous academic year and the commencement of the new academic year. This provided the Project PANKH team with an opportunity to reconnect with the children and continue its commitment towards learning, engagement, confidence-building, and holistic development.
The Social Service Committee faculty team—Dr. Krushna Sawant, Dr. Celina Joy, and Dr. Betty Sibil—visited the Podi School, interacted with the students, and guided and encouraged the MBA student volunteers throughout the session.
Introduction
Project PANKH was launched as a community development project in January 2023 to empower students from marginalized and migrant communities studying in the Zilla Parishad School, Gyanjyoti Savitribai Phule Shala, Podi 2, New Panvel. This collaborative initiative between Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research and SIBC has a goal to provide a series of workshops for both teachers and students for the overall holistic development of the school. The workshops are designed with a focus on improving literacy, providing skills for economic empowerment, awareness on personal development, addressing mental health and personal safety measures. Project PANKH’s unique feature is the active involvement of both students and faculty members as drivers of community development by leveraging their expertise to foster a sense of responsibility among the students themselves.
