PiMSR Research and Development Committee organised a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) on 18th August, 2023 at the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus. The FDP was organised in collaboration with Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Harmal, Goa. Prominent speakers from both the institutes shared their valuable insights on NEP which is an initiative of the Government of India to transform India into vibrant knowledge society. The sessions were conducted by esteemed resource persons Mr. Khushali U. Prabhu, Dr. Pandurang Bhagwan Pandit, Dr. Asawari Sushant Ashtekar, Dr. Smita Laxman Survase and Prof. Deepika Sharma. The event was also graced by the presence of Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai, Chairman & CEO of Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institutions.

The first session was addressed by Mr. Khushali U. Prabhu, Assistant Professor – Ganpat Parsekar College of Education who spoke about the genesis of NEP. He sais that the vision encompassed a holistic education through resource-rich school complexes and clusters, aiming for a 50% GER in higher education. The integration of multidisciplinary education, internationalisation and women’s higher education growth highlighted NEP’s comprehensive approach to the change.

The next session was addressed by Prof. Pandurang Bhagwan Pandit, Assistant Professor at Ganpat Parsekar College of Education who spoke about “Outcome Based Education”, focusing on aligning education with industry needs through behaviour changes in students. Outcome Based Education (OBE) advocated performance-based assessments, continuous improvement, and experiential learning for real-world readiness.

The next speaker was Dr. Asawari Sushant Ashtekar, Assistant Professor at Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, who spoke about “Recent Trends In Assessment” and emphasised the role of assessment in nurturing student growth, showcasing the shift towards qualitative and quantitative tools, continuous assessments, and technology-based methods.

Post Lunch the session started with Dr. Smita Laxman Survase, Associate Professor and Dean – Academic Affairsat K. J. Somaiya College of Science and Commerce, Mumbai who spoke about “Opportunities and Challenges in Implementing 2020″ covering NEP 2020’s multifaceted goals and challenges, emphasising student-centricity, diverse learning pathways and holistic education while acknowledging implementation difficulties.

The next speaker, Prof. Deepika Sharma, Vice Principal of Pillai College of Arts, Commerce and Science, talked about “NEP 2020 Tailoring The Academic Journey” highlighted NEP’s vision of personalised and flexible learning through blended approaches, multiple exit points and co-curricular recognition.

The FDP helped in gaining knowledge and insight about NEP 2020. The FDP brought together 56 faculty members from various institutes across state of Maharashtra and Goa including 19 faculty members of PiMSR.

The event ended on a high note as all the esteemed guests were felicitated, marking the successful conclusion of the event.
