A Management Mind-set Orientation Program was organised by the Corporate Relation Committee of PiMSR on 21st November, 2022 for the first-year students pursuing the Masters in Management Studies. The guest speaker was Mr. Anish Pillai who has 19+ years of experience across Wealth Management, Asset Management, Investment Banking and the financial services domain. He is currently heading Wealth Management America in UBS India and handles multiple teams. Mr. Pillai gave an in-depth idea on “goal setting”. Before any goal there is a dream, but what separates a goal from a dream is that goal is more specific with a lot of focus and attention. He said dreams help in expanding one’s imagination while one’s goal helps to stretch each person’s capabilities. Clear goals help in future plans. Every person should plan their goal according to their area of interest. Every single goal should be S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time bound). To set a specific goal you must answer the 5 “W” questions: Who is involved. What to be accomplished. Where to identify a location. When to establish a time frame. Which requirements and constraints to be identified. A goal should be measurable, achievable, and relevant in itself and should have a plan of action backed by time constraints.

Mr. Pillai also spoke about the attributes of a “Wheels of life – person”. One should balance career, financial management, spiritual life, physical health, and manage family & social life in a balanced and proportionate way. Without any of these in life, any person can make their life hard whereas giving them a proper balance with correct goals can lead them to a successful life. Mr. Pillai ended the session by emphasising that students should always maintain professional grooming, having more than 75% attendance, taking notes-asking questions and getting feedback on the work done. All in all it was a very interesting and informative session.
