“Vachan Prerana Diwas” at PIMSR Library celebrating Birth Anniversary of Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam.

The PIMSR Library celebrated “Vachan Prerana Diwas” on 15th October 2025, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who believed that reading is the key to self-discovery and national progress. The event aimed to inspire students and faculty to embrace the joy of reading and carry forward Dr. Kalam’s vision of igniting young minds through books and knowledge.

The program was skillfully conducted by Professor Subhendu Bhattacharya, who welcomed all participants and highlighted the importance of nurturing a reading culture in academic life.

The celebration featured an engaging faculty talk session where readers shared their reflections on the value of reading. Dr. Mahesh Ranade highlighted the joys of reading and underlined the importance of the Marathi language, encouraging everyone to explore regional literature as a way to connect with cultural roots and values. Dr. Krushna R. Sawant discussed the need for consistent reading habits and shared insights from Business Maharajas by Gita Piramal, emphasizing lessons from India’s business icons. Registrar Dr. K.P. Gopal reflected on Dr. Kalam’s inspiring life and his disciplined pursuit of knowledge. Professor Santoshi Periyasamy captivated the audience by reading a poem from Wings of Fire, bringing alive Dr. Kalam’s message of dreaming big and remaining rooted in values.

To complement the session, the library showcased a book display featuring the works of Dr. Kalam. Approval books were also displayed for faculty review and selection. A special attraction was the “Readers’ Wall,” where students and faculty shared their favourite books and literary quotes, celebrating their personal connection to reading.

Towards the end of the session, Director, Dr. R. Chandran, visited the library, appreciated the initiative, and shared his thoughts on the Readers’ Wall. He emphasized the role of reading in personal growth and encouraged everyone to continue exploring books as a lifelong source of inspiration and learning. Ms. Tejaswini Karkhanis, Librarian, then addressed the gathering and announced that the library will soon be connecting with readers through social media platforms in the near future to engage the academic community more actively in literary activities and updates.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of inspiration, reminding everyone of Dr. Kalam’s belief that reading is a lifelong journey that nurtures curiosity, creativity, and character.
