On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, 2nd October, 2023 faculty and students of Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research organized a special event at Nanoshi Karanjade Hills in alignment with the Swachh Bharat Mission of the Government of India. The event aimed to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and promote cleanliness, tree plantation, and environmental awareness. After the students had at the foothills of Karanjade village in Panvel, Prof. Vikrant Gharat and Prof. Priyanka Chatta conducted a debriefing session, setting the context and objectives of the event. They explained the importance of observing the Swachata Hi Sewa initiative. The students then embarked on a small hike towards Karanjade Hill Airport. Upon reaching the hilltop, participants engaged in tree plantation activities in honor of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. This act not only contributes to environmental conservation but also symbolizes Gandhi’s affinity for nature. This was followed by a talk on valuable life survival skills and knowledge about jungle craft, emphasizing self-sufficiency and the importance of nature by Prof. Vikrant Gharat.
After this the students actively participated in trash collection, promoting cleanliness and responsible waste disposal in the area. The Gandhi Jayanti celebration at Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research was a resounding success with 20 student volunteers and 2 faculty members participating in this activity. It not only paid tribute to the Father of the Nation but also aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission, promoting cleanliness and environmental consciousness. The tree plantation, trash collection, and survival skills sessions added a practical dimension to the event, empowering participants with valuable knowledge and skills. This event, coordinated by social service committee member Hrithik Kachare, exemplified the institution’s commitment to holistic education and community engagement.
