The PiMSR Research and Development Committee organized a Management Conclave on the topic “A Teacher is a Leader; A Leader is a Teacher” on 26th November, 2022 from 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at the Auditorium of Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus. 256 students and 16 faculty members attended the event. Teacher leaders are those individuals who not only carve the student’s destiny for a better future but build their skills & competencies to prepare them for a meaningful career. Teachers also mean a Boss, Guide, Coach and Facilitator lead & hand hold each of their students & young corporate professionals to prepare them for leadership positions & not managerial positions. In other words, every organization irrespective of their size wants their employees to shoulder responsibilities at a higher level in the present position.
A teacher as a leader is one who: | A leader as a teacher is one who: |
---|---|
Influences the mental models & values of the student followers | Genuinely cares for the students |
Develops purpose as an anchor for the students | Generates the desire in the students to learn & grow |
Creates space for the student to discover & co create | Raises the cognition levels & provide perspective |
A teacher in today’s times must not be seen only in the context to academics but need to be seen as leaders who inculcate values, professional engagement, building competencies to take on complex projects, higher responsibilities, go beyond the realm of their job role to take oneself & his / her team to realize the vision & mission of the organization. The ENGAGEMENT has become paramount in schools, colleges & corporate body today. The teachers in schools & managers at the corporate institutions have the moral responsibility to develop their employees meaningfully so that they are prepared to handle challenges & complex projects.

The take away from this Leadership Meet has been enormous. Today the teacher’s era of educating their students has changed considerably. The teacher / facilitator / mentor / professor in the academics are seen as a boss / guide / change agent attached to a corporate. The way a manager engages his employee, a teacher needs to necessarily engage his student thereby slowly enhancing their competencies to a level where he becomes an ‘Asset’ to the corporation. In other words, the teacher of today has to play the role of a ‘Teacher Leader’.
The event was coordinated by Prof. Subramanian Iyer along with the PiMSR Research and Development Committee members.
