The Pillai Group of Institutions’ exhilarating intercollegiate event Alegria – The Festival of Joy, is one of the most fabulous festivals of its kind in India with a footfall of over 50,000, all gathered to be in the presence of magnificent talent and star celebrities. Alegria is a product of a zealous and passionate group of students and faculty behind the scenes. The festival has now witnessed appearances from some of the biggest names in the Indian entertainment industry. Some versatile Bollywood celebrities such as Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Ayushman Khurrana, Siddhart Malhotra, Sonam Kapoor, Karthik Aryan , Nushrat Bharucha, Sunny Nijhar, Govinda, Elli Avram, Saquib Salim, Zayed Khan, Rakul Preet Kaur, Lauren Gottlieb, Jackky Bhagani, Ran Vijay Singha, Pallavi Sharda, Warina Hussain, Pushkar Jog, Sarah Jane Diad, Aaparshakti Khurrana, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor, Aisha Sharma, Shama Sikander, Rinku Rajguru, Chinmay Udgirkar, Sonali Seygall, Adah Sharma, Rohan Mehra, Nibedita Pal, Chetna Pande along with Indian beatbox sensation D cypher and dance gurus Rahul Shetty and Dhanashree Verma have stepped on the Alegrian dais to promote their movies to the incredible crowd attending the festival and to judge the spectacular events. Sports world champions Bhaichung Bhutiya, Sunil Chhetri, Ashwini Ponnappa, Sahil Khan, Sangram Chougule, Murali Kumar Syed Kirmani and Rushabh Choksi along with his Spartan army have also visited to showcase their talents and to encourage the budding stars in their respective sport. Alegria was delighted to have some outstanding musical artists such as Guru Randhawa, Divine, Yo Yo Honey Singh, Bollywood Superstar Farhan Akhtar, award-winning Romanian pop band Akcent, the billion views lady Dhvani Bhanushali, Armaan Malik and the Sabali Band who won our hearts with their remarkable performances. Here at Alegria we experienced some out of the world DJs like Mariana Bo, Tomorrowland’s resident DJ Yves V, DJs Sultan Shepard, DJ Mag’s 33rd ranked Quintino, Teri Miko, Mike Candys, Hakuna Matata sensation Diego Miranda and the guy who trended Chicken Masala- Bemet who wooed the audience to dance to their beats. At the heart of Alegria – The Festival of Joy, is the noteworthy talent of students who participate, organize, and, oversee more than a hundred different events taking place over the course of the festival with great professionalism and care. The aim of the festival has been to showcase the power of the youth and continues to succeed in doing so.
Alegria – The Festival of Joy – 2020-2021
The Festival of Joy is an increasingly thriving annual event with changing themes including last year’s “Dreamland” and this year’s theme “Light the Night”.
The inauguration of the annual festival of Pillai College, Alegria-The Festival of Joy 2020 was slated to be a grand one and it lived uptown the hype. Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai and Dr. Daphne Pillai, honourable, Mr. Rane, Chief Fire Officer, CIDCO & PMC, Mr. Sadashiv Kavte, Superintendent, License Department, PMC and Ms. Tejaswini Galande, Assistant Commissioner, PMC as chief guests for the inaugural event. The auspicious morning began on a bright note with a beautiful classical dance rendition by the students of Pillai College.
This was followed by a skit based on the remarkable journey of a visionary Dr. Vasudevan Pillai and an illuminating talk by Dr. Daphane Pillai. Reliving the 50 years of MES was inspiring, thrilling and emotional at the same time. The inaugural session also involved a spectacular performance by IGT semifinalists Mallakhamb innovators.
An electrifying hip hop team which is going to represent India performed an energetic performance on the theme of the movie Tanhaji, which was followed by felicitation of the honourable guests for the inauguration ceremony.
The rapping session was a fantastic opening for the mega festival Alegria. Pillai campus was at a whole new level of excitement to have the rapping torchbearers from Dharavi, 7 Bantaiz. Having JADOO, Akash Dodeja as a judge for standup comedy competition, was a time filled with loads of hysterical humour.
Apart from this, there were numerous competitions and events in the literature, sports, management, etc categories going on in full swing. Next on the list we had the competitors all decked up for the fashion show event.
Aisha Sharma spent her evening as a judge. The unique and eye catching outfits of the participants were seen on the ramp walk. All teams awed the audience with looks which were curated personally. The fashion show atmosphere was filled with music which gave us goosebumps. The last event of Alegria for the first day was the War of DJs. Julia Bliss judged the competition and then rocked the stage with an epic session which had everyone high up in the air. The audience enjoyed every bit of the event with full zest.

Alegria – The Festival of Joy hosts many remarkable and exceptional events every year like concert night, EDM night, movie promotions, etc. But every year a banner unveiling ceremony is held to give this magical journey a kick-start. This year, Algeria 2020, was launched with a captivating flashmob where talented dancers performed for the excited crowd.
Nostalgia spread among everyone as they relived their childhood memories when they watched characters such as Harry Potter, Aladdin, Jasmine and Genie, the sisters from Frozen, Elsa and Anna along with Willy Wonka entertain them.
After such heartwarming performances the banner was unveiled in the most extravagant manner. Just when the crowd thought that the fun part was about to end, Pillai’s also celebrated the 50 years mark of MES.
An unexpected visit by none other than DJ Shaan awed the audience. He announced his tour of 20 performances in 2020 with his first one being in and at The Festival of Joy. This announcement made the crowd go crazy with excitement. Also, DJ Shaan took a memorable picture with the entire crowd.
The event saw a huge footfall with every Alegrian setting their with excitement and curiosity for this year’s Alegrian Dreamland.
Alegria – The Festival of Joy 2019
Alegria is a festival with a raft of grand events like EDM night, movie promotions, concerts, etc. But the event which kick-starts this jamboree is the “Flashmob”!
This ceremony unveils the banner for the year’s theme in a grand and pompous fashion. The Flashmob for Alegria 19 was a highly anticipated event like every year. Volunteers, committee members and participants in galore were set to make this event memorable. Students accommodated every possible place at each floor to witness the event, reaching an hour prior. Dance groups not only consisted of talented dancers but also popular movie characters. Right from the DC / Marvel superheroes like Spiderman, Black Panther, Thor, Captain America, etc. to Indian protagonists like Superstar Rajni, Singham, Peshwa Bajirao, etc each of them left everyone in splits. After such splendid performances, the banner was unveiled which presented the theme for this year i.e “Cosmos: To Infinity and Beyond”.

India has been home to a number of underground talents since long. Be it the furious dance forms or the even more furious rappers, India has always been an abode to raw stars in this universe. One such raw star from the underground rap scene who has been encompassing everything in his way to rise to heights of stardom is VIVIAN FERNANDES, better known by his stage name, DIVINE.ALEGRIA 2k18, with the theme based on MUMBAI, feels blessed to have DIVINE, straight outta’ Mumbai’s Gullies performing on the 10th of February. The excitement keeps on getting bigger!
The JOY in ALEGRIA- THE FESTIVAL OF JOY will truly be justified yet again as BISWA makes his presence felt and enthralls each one of you with his comic timing at sector 16 on the 8th of February.
Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institutions conducted ‘Alegría – the Festival of Joy’ from the 6th January to 10th February, 2018 at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai’s Campus, New Panvel. ‘Alegría – the Festival of Joy’ is a multi-institution mega festival, created with the goal of providing a platform for our students to demonstrate their wonderful and sometimes hidden talents and skills. Numerous esteemed personalities from Bollywood, Artists, Academics and Industry graced the occasion and it was widely reported by the press across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The fest culminated with a rocking performance by Akcent during the final night.

An IIT KHARAGPUR degree to his name, Biswa has been one of the pioneering acts in the Indian standup scene. Having toured India with BISWA IN YOUR FACE and BISWA MAST AADMI, in 2015, this aadmi’s popularity has reached the zenith. Not only this, but he has also been performing for AIB, CANVAS LAUGH CLUB and AMAZON PRIME VIDEO.
Music has been the purest form to express ourselves and songs have always ruled millions of hearts. India is blessed with numerous incredible singers and outstanding musicians over the ages. One such famous pop Singer and songwriter who reached the zenith in the world of music is ‘GURSHARANJOT SINGH RANDHAWA’, popularly known as ‘GURU’. Born in Gurdaspur, Punjab and having mastered in business administration, this ‘PUNJABI MUNDA’ has been rocking the music industry. Having debuted with his song ‘Chad gayi’ for the album ‘PAGE ONE’ in the year 2013, Guru got an applauding response with the plethora of likes and views. Post that he never stopped mesmerizing people with his melodious voice. He has songs like ‘suit suit’, ‘Ban ja rani’, ‘Lagdi hai Thaai’, ‘Patola’, ‘AK 47’ and many more hits to his name. He recently made his Bollywood singing debut with the film,’Hindi Medium’. GURU is one of the most charming and the cutest pop singers of the lot who has in no time gained huge fandom.
