PiMSR’s Institution Innovation Cell organized a Webinar titled “Innovation and Startup Ecosystem for YOU” on Friday, 23rd July, 2021 at 5:30 p.m. The two guest speakers were Innovation Ambassadors and PhD holders- Richa Agarwal (Mechanical Engineer and PhD Holder from VNIT Nagpur) and Avinash R Vaidya (Electronics and Telecom Engineer and PhD Holder from IIT Bombay) from Pillai College of Engineering (PCE). The objective of the webinar was to acclimatize management students about the various schemes and programs promoted by the Government of India to encourage students to start businesses and be a part of the startup ecosystem.

At the outset, Dr. Shaheda Sheikh – President IIC, PiMSR enthusiastically welcomed the faculty and participating students by referring to the giant strides taken by the startup ecosystem in India in the last few years. She urged students to make the most of this opportunity to use the various schemes by the government to start their own businesses. She then introduced the two speakers. Dr. Avinash Vaidya has a PhD from IIT Bombay. His areas of research are high gain wideband multilayer antennas & ultra wideband antennas. He has two Indian patents in his credit. Dr. Richa Agrawal has a PhD from VNIT Nagpur and has 17 years of experience in teaching, research and industry.

During the webinar, Dr. Richa Agrawal brilliantly explained the importance of Innovation in monetary terms. Dr. Agrawal led the students on the path of innovation by explaining about the phases of startup, funding, technology readiness level and also India’s global standing on this matter.

Dr. Avinash Vaidya pointed out that most of the innovators will be found in institutions like ours rather than the IIT’s. He also explained the various initiatives taken by the MOE innovation cell, Yukti 2.0 which includes information on opportunities for funding, pitching and networking. He briefly spoke about NISP and Kapila promoted by the Government of India.

The webinar ended with a vote of thanks proposed by IIC member, Prof. Balashankar Ramdas. He thanked Dr. Agrawal and Dr. Vaidya for the highly informative discourse. He expressed his gratitude to all esteemed delegates of the webinar for their presence & contribution to make this webinar a great success. He urged students to start thinking about being entrepreneurs, having gained enough knowledge on the concept of innovation and startups from this webinar. The webinar had an attendance of 125 students and faculty and was well appreciated by all.
