Faculty Development Session on “Behaviour at Workplace”
Date: 24th July 2025
Time: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Venue: Third Floor Conclave, PIMSR
As part of the Faculty Development Program (FDP) at PIMSR, a special session on “Behaviour at Workplace” was conducted on 24th July 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Third Floor Conclave.
The Session was organized for all new joinees of Mahatma Education Society (MES) for the year 2025, with a participation of approximately 40–50 teaching and non-teaching staff members from various departments and institutions under MES.
The Resource Person, Ms. Yvette Lee, a qualified therapist and counsellor with MES, led the session, offering crucial insights into professional ethics, boundaries, and appropriate behavior in academic settings.
Key Highlights:
- Maintaining boundaries with students:
Ms. Lee emphasized that faculty must avoid developing personal or informal relationships with students while they are on campus. Overfamiliarity can lead to students taking undue advantage, which can compromise both professionalism and institutional integrity. - Real examples from MES institutions:
Through real-life cases that occurred within MES, Ms. Lee illustrated the consequences of crossing boundaries — not just with students but also with fellow faculty members. - POSH Compliance and Online Conduct:
A significant focus was placed on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act and how its guidelines extend beyond the classroom. Faculty were specifically advised not to accept social media requests from students on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, even after hours. - Professionalism and Institutional Policy:
The session reiterated MES’s policy of maintaining respectful and strictly professional conduct in all forms of interaction — verbal, written, and digital.
The session was deeply insightful and was received with seriousness and appreciation by the attendees. It served as a valuable orientation to MES culture and expectations for all new teaching faculty.
