As part of Project PANKH, the Social Service Committee of Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research (PiMSR) conducted an interactive and activity-based English learning session for Grade 3 students at Zilla Parishad Gyan Jyoti Savitribai Phule School, Podi, on 17th September 2025.

The primary objective of this initiative was to enhance the English language skills of young learners—focusing on spellings, vocabulary building, and reading fluency—through joyful and engaging classroom activities.

The session began with a revision of simple spellings to help students recall foundational vocabulary with confidence. Gradually, the facilitators introduced more challenging words, encouraging active participation from the students. One of the key activities involved students coming up to the blackboard to write the names of their favourite fruits and vegetables. This not only reinforced vocabulary but also made the session interactive and relatable.

Following this, a reading activity was conducted where students read aloud with guidance on pronunciation and fluency. The session concluded with a lively game of “sit-down/stand-up,” based on word recognition, which kept the students engaged and attentive until the end. All activities were designed keeping in mind the age and attention span of Grade 3 students, ensuring that learning remained enjoyable and effective.

The learning outcomes of the session included improved recognition and spelling of both simple and complex words, enhanced vocabulary using real-life examples, better pronunciation and reading fluency, increased classroom participation, and a positive learning experience in a supportive environment. The session was conducted by MMS students Akshada Rajkar, Sarvesh Deo, and Lipakshi Gawale, who demonstrated enthusiasm and creativity in their teaching approach.

Overall, the session was a fulfilling experience for both the students and the volunteers. It successfully demonstrated how activity-based learning can make foundational education more impactful, enjoyable, and meaningful for young learners.
