Pillai Institute of Management Studies & Research (PIMSR), New Panvel, Navi Mumbai organised ‘News with an Edge’ on 12th February, 2025 at college auditorium. It was a group wise competition where Pillai Institute of Management Studies & Research (PIMSR) MMS students presented news bulletin in sophisticated and decent way. It was to boost up public speaking ability, presentation skill, communication power and team management and coordination. Another significant purpose of the event was to strengthen student’s aptitude about local and global affair, general knowledge and awareness about society, economy, business, trade and commerce. It is prerogative of students of today’s world to keep a tab on occurrences of the world and being knowledgeable and updated. This event was also to make students competitive and to enhance employability quotient. The program started with welcoming the audience and giving an overview of the event. Anchors of the event were MMS students Ms. Haritha Menon and Mr. Abhishek Toshniwal. Welcome address was delivered by Prof. Vijay karvande who discussed the significance of news reading and getting knowledge and insights about world and current trends. Prof. Prasenjit Yesumbare discoursed about relevance of understanding news and its impact on our daily lives. He instructed to make mental flowchart of news coverage and see the progress of new developments. Prof. Anil Jadwani took a brief session about the new initiative NextGen Newz with the help of MMS students to do digital news telecast to present current events and occurances in exciting ways. Director of PIMSR delivered audience about developing reading habit, following news and getting the information of business, economy and all fields of operation to stay knowledgeable, versatile and progressive. Group wise news presentation started GenZ News and moved on to News on the edge, SANDS Daily News, Insight 24/7, Insta News, Global Pulse, Quintessential, Beyond Headlines, Buzz Bulletin sequentially. Each news bulletin started with Breaking News or Headlines and then covered local news, national news, international news, business news, entertainment news, sports and games, and concluded with weather forecast. All teams were creative and innovative in their ways of presenting news and captivating the audience. The judges of the event were Prof. Krushna Sawant, Prof. Subramaniyan Iyer and Prof. Vinod Madhavan. After news bulletin, summarisation of the event and significance of being updated was referred by Prof. Subhendu Bhattacharya who was the chief architect of the event. The program got ended with prize distribution and vote of thanks. The winners were SANDS Daily News and runner-up was m Buzz Bulletin. Winners and Runner ups assembled on the dais for a photo session. It was a fantastic event for students to showcase their communication skill, presentation dexterity, inquisitiveness and innovative prowess.
