Celebrating Matribhasha Divas at Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research: A phenomenal blend of creativity, culture and language.
International Mother Language Day, or Matribhasha Divas, is celebrated worldwide every year on 21st February to promote linguistic diversity and preserve cultural heritage. Established by UNESCO in 1999, the day has been globally recognized since 2000. Its primary goal is to raise awareness about the importance of protecting mother languages, fostering multilingual education, and promoting inclusive communication across the world.
To mark this occasion, Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research organized an engaging event that highlighted key themes such as “Celebrating Linguistic Diversity,” “The Beauty of My Mother Tongue,” “Language: A Bridge to Culture,” and “Preserving Our Mother Language for Future Generations.” Students were tasked with creating and presenting handmade posters that reflected these themes, showcasing their creativity and understanding of linguistic diversity.
The event saw enthusiastic participation, with students presenting unique and innovative ideas that emphasized the beauty and significance of their native languages. The posters were a vibrant mix of colours, paints, and intricate paper cut-outs, demonstrating the students’ artistic flair and passion for preserving their cultural heritage.
Eight groups competed, and after a thorough evaluation, three groups emerged as winners for their exceptional presentations. Each winning team was awarded certificates and encouraged to participate in more such initiatives, furthering their commitment to linguistic and cultural preservation.
The event was a resounding success, providing students with a valuable opportunity to learn about different cultures and languages while fostering a sense of pride and responsibility toward the preservation of their mother tongues.
