International Day of Yoga 2023 was observed by Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research by conducting an energising yoga session for the female help staff from marginalised communities. The session was conducted at the Assembly Hall, Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, New Panvel in June 2023. The event was conducted in association with Soroptimist International Bombay Chembur. The instructor for the session was Ms. Savita Shrimant Gaikwad who is an internationally certified yoga trainer and has eight years experience in yoga, meditation & spirituality. She recently won the Miss. Maharashtra title. She started the session with warm up exercises and some dance moves. Once the participants had completed the warm up she shared some basic and simple yoga exercises for general health and stress management. The session ended with deep breathing exercises and deep relaxation through meditation. All the help staff enthusiastically participated in the session. Snacks were served after the session. SIBC Founder President Dr. Daphne Pillai was present for the session and encouraged the participants. Faculty members Dr. Celina Joy, Dr. Betty Sibil and Prof. Krushna R Sawant attended the event. 55 participants benefited from the session. Ms. Asha Sarwade, one of the participants mentioned that “This is the first time I attended a yoga session. The exercises are simple and effective. I will practice them everyday to help me manage stress”. All in all it was a wonderful and effective session for the female help staff of the campus.
