Daan Utsav, also known as the Joy of Giving Week, is an annual event that is celebrated in month of October across India that promotes kindness and generosity. On 23rd October, 2024, the Social Service Committee at Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research, in collaboration with Soroptimist International Bombay Chembur, organized an engaging event aimed at raising awareness about social responsibility and providing avenues for community contributions.
The event was inaugurated by our esteemed Director, Dr. R. Chandran, who visited each stall, offering words of encouragement and commending students for their creativity and commitment.
Event Highlights
A variety of stalls, managed entirely by students, showcased diverse interests and themes. Key highlights included:
- MMS Chaatwaala: This stall served an assortment of homemade snacks, including sev puri, pani puri, and bhel, all prepared with locally sourced ingredients.
- Pop A Corn: Offering an array of popcorn flavors such as caramel, cheese, and butter, this stall attracted customers with the delightful aroma of freshly popped corn.
- Fun and Fundraising: Featuring engaging games and activities, this stall created a lively, competitive atmosphere for visitors of all ages.
- Twisted Melodies: A cupcake stall offering a delightful assortment of homemade cupcakes, from classic vanilla to rich red velvet, enjoyed by all.
- Fizzy Fundraiser: Refreshing sodas and customizable fizzy drinks were available, with classic, fruity and unique flavor blends.
Commitment to Hygiene
Each stall prioritized cleanliness and hygiene, with students implementing effective waste disposal systems and handling food with care, including the use of gloves and hair caps.
Faculty and staff actively participated in the event, enjoying the offerings and engaging with students. Their support fostered a positive atmosphere, and many expressed pride in the students’ dedication and creativity.
Impact and Contributions
At the event’s conclusion, students were thrilled to learn about the profits of Rs. 6,400 raised through their efforts. In the true spirit of Daan Utsav, the students donated the amount to Soroptimist Welfare Association, an NGO dedicated to the welfare of women and girls, thus demonstrating their commitment to making a meaningful impact to society.
