Towards Human Excellence
Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai, CEO and Chairman, Mahatma Education Society
Education has always made changes in the lives of people. However, we have noticed that during the last two and half decades, education has not been value based and it has not provided the requisite mind-set for children in the learning environment. I was always concerned with this restlessness, lack of concentration and the failure of the students in achieving their objectives especially, the youth. I have noticed that they have not been trained to develop concentration from their childhood to adolescence and youth. I, therefore, felt that there must be some way to solve this problem and it is in this search for excellence, I stumbled upon the concept of relaxation techniques for students from childhood.
The real power and purpose of education can only be achieved if we are able to make the children concentrate in their academic, non-academic and spiritual pursuits. In order to achieve these objectives we have joined in unison with the Heartfulness Institute to create a wellness department for Mahatma Education Society with which we can impart relaxation techniques, meditation etc. across our institutions. Mr. Kamlesh D. Patel, the President of Shree Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) and Dr. Nivedita Shreyans an active member of Heartfulness Institute have been instrumental in achieving our objectives.
This initiative has made a positive impact in the minds of our school students, Junior college students, Degree college students, Engineering students, Management students and above all to my teachers and, therefore, it has touched the lives of their families as well.
I hope and pray that the movement that we have initiated will be carried on in other institutions and the torch will lighten the minds of future generations.
Spiritual Message for Pillai Group of Institutions
Revered Shri Kamlesh Patel, President, SRCM
The seeds of goodness, kindness, generosity, affection, of acceptance rather than tolerance, and of many other great virtues can be inculcated from a very early age. It is these younger vectors of greater ethics, packed with uncompromising character, who will embellish the future. The age of spiritual giants will only be possible through such cultivation of the youth, nourished with our love and constant care.
A precious crop requires utmost care and personal investment. In the case of our youth, it must come both from the families and the educational institutions. Young minds and hearts are innocent and can be easily inspired to achieve those lofty heights of which the Indian multitudes have only dreamed and imagined throughout the ages. Who has not envisaged themselves as having acquired the relaxed nobility of a calmly moving elephant, despite the barking of dogs? Who has not aspired to move freely, like the wind, without being caught in the fists of mighty ones? Who has not aspired to attain the much-heralded condition of the lotus flower, of which the Gita speaks so highly?
We dream of a world where our citizens will have complete command over their thoughts and feelings. The initial step is Heartfulness Relaxation and later, the practice of Heartfulness Meditation, in which we meditate upon the Divine presence within our hearts. Spirituality, which is the essence of religion, upholds unity amongst all through hearts with love. The family members and faculty at large number will have to move faster in this direction – the spiritual direction – in order to guide the young minds.
We are all familiar with the nourishing of the sthoola sharir, or the physical body, and the sukshma sharir, which is the subtle body, or mind. However, the nourishing of that most vital Entity, known as the Karan sharir, or soul, remains wanting. How to nourish our soul? Whether we have remained hungry for hours or for days, physical hunger can always be satiated with a single meal. The hunger of the soul can also be satisfied by a single spiritual meal through Heartfulness Meditation, which is aided by pranahuti, or yogic transmission. Once we know how to satisfy the hunger of the soul (which keeps us going till we kick the bucket!), how can life remain spiritually unfulfilled?
Try spirituality. Approach it with a scientific bent of mind. Then there will be no need to have faith. Experiment with it. Compare your experiments of meditation, both with and without pranahuti, which is the heart of Heartfulness Meditation. Simply do it and feel. My heartfelt congratulations to the Pillai Institutions for incorporating such an initiative of inspiring young minds with the concept of conscious living, leading to brighter planet through brighter citizens. One step at a time, lighting one lamp at a time and we shall reach our destination. Let us together offer our humble prayers to the Lord for the peaceful and brighter world.
Wellness Initiative of MS. Nivedita Shreyans
Director PR – Pillai Group of Institutions
Center of Excellence in Wellness and Meditation, where tranquility and growth intertwine. Guided by the expertise of Dr. Nivedita Shreyans, our center takes a holistic approach to well-being. As the Head of the Department of Wellness and Meditation, Dr. Nivedita Shreyans leads our initiatives, fostering an environment where students actively engage in wellness practices, meditation, and yoga activities.
Hearfulness Relaxation Technique is the first step of a movement which brings about overall wellness of an individual. It is a practice that allows one to experience oneself holistically. The wellbeing of a nation depends on the wellbeing of its citizens. We need a new cultural model for instrumenting our well-being. What is needed is a holistic wellness system that empowers the self to make better choices for successful existence.
Today, wellness has become the essence of the ethos at all the institutions of the Mahatma Education Society. With the commitment towards promoting wellness of its staff and students, the WELLNESS DEPARTMENT of the Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai group of institutions came into existence on 25th September, 2014 under the able leadership, advocacy and direction of its CEO, Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai. Also for this, we appreciate the services and support rendered by Shree Ram Chandra Mission and the Heartfulness Institute in executing the vision of our Wellness Department into a reality for our institution.
Since the inception of this unique endeavour, we’ve taken a strategic approach in our implementation. The initiative started with the introductory program by CIDCO MD, Mr. Sanjay Bhatia at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, New Panvel, Navi Mumbai, where the idea of wellness and meditation for faculty members took birth, and the concept forged ahead into a very big movement in just a year, in all the campuses of the Mahatma Education Society. With its audience ranging right from teachers to school kids to the students in the higher Education, pertaining to Engineering, MBA, Architecture and Polytechnic, the Wellness initiative of Mahatma Education Society (MES) has indeed taken off in a very positive and high spirit.
Currently more than 10,000 school and junior college students start everyday of their school with the Heartfulness Relaxation technique and Meditation for 3 to 4 minutes. At the end of the day, again the school students follow the relaxation command. They sit in a meditative mode in order to introspect complete day’s activity regarding what they learnt during the day, what was positive and challenging activity for them, what were the cherishable moments in the day etc. By making the effort to be mindful and giving a little attention to each and every respectively related aspect, students can optimize their happiness, well-being, and success and build the core inner strength. Similarly in the department of Higher Education, over 1000 engineering students at Pillai Institute of Information Technology and Media Studies follow the same pattern, by starting the day with Heartfulness Relaxation technique and Meditation for 12 minutes right in the morning as the day begins. This process is successfully carried out in 24 Engineering classes every day.
More than 1000 teachers in our schools and more than 50 teachers in the Higher Education department have completed a-4-day Meditation training program organized by the Wellness Department. Regular group meditation sessions once or twice in a week are conducted by the Preceptors of Heartfulness Institute in three campuses of Pillai Group, Navi Mumbai, those are Mahatma School of Academics and Sports, Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai, New Panvel Campus, and Pillai HOCL, Rasayani campus. The entire team is deeply motivated by the way the practice has changed and enriched their lives. Tremendous improvement is seen in the performance of our employees and students. All are now, much calmer, positive and more focused not only in their work area but in all dimensions of their lives.
The Pillai Group of Institutions, besides covering its own educational campuses, conducted meditation seminars at various places in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, for the overall health of other citizens. As a part of Corporate Social responsibility, we were successful in spreading the wellness message by training 134 Police trainee officers in Kalamboli Police headquarters for 4 months successfully, and for around 115 security retired Military Officers and Naval security Commanders who attended the program.
Thus, we are excited to be running multiple courses on an on-going basis, to varied participants to help them learn the essential skills to meditate and discover their innate ability to self-regulate—their ability to tune things out and to pay attention to what’s happening with themselves, and from there expanding it outwards.
We look forward to more and more institutions encourage practice of ‘Meditation’ for the benefit of physical and mental health of their students and staff.

Rising with Kindness – International Youth Conference
We, the students of Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research attended the Rising with Kindness International Youth Conference at Kanha Shantivanam, Hyderabad from the 12th to 14th August, 2022.
We reached the heartfelt atmosphere of Kanha Shanti Vanam, Hyderabad, to attend the “Rising with Kindness” International Youth Conference after an overnight journey by train and another hour and a half by bus. The finest remedy a weary spirit could hope for was the exquisite taste of cold with a pinch of divine bliss. After a long journey, we had the warmest welcome possible. The mattresses were comfortable, the food was delicious and served by kind people who tried their best to make us feel at home.
When we got up early on the first day of the conference at 5.30 a.m. and started walking towards the meditation hall, living an unplanned life changed in an instant. This was the beginning of a new day with new learning. The feeling of being embraced by nature with arms extended wide, caressed by the breeze as we halt to experience the tranquility, and the soothing melodies that the birds sang for us gave us the impression that there is no existence other than this remote location in the midst of chaos.
Nobody has ever experienced paradise, but as we moved slowly around the main meditation hall, we had a taste of it. The absolute monolith of a monument created in the midst of nowhere stood out from each and every corner of the 1400 acres of land which is Kanha Shantivanam, the trees, plants, flowers, and even the little snails that would have gone unnoticed all stole my breath away. We encountered the genuine blank state of mind which was a peaceful blank in which there were no thoughts, only a deep calm and a tranquil soul all thanks to Daaji’s guidance in the morning meditation session. The day continued with a yoga session, breakfast, an inauguration ceremony, management games & activity, several kindness seminars, and supper to bring the first day to an end.
With a strength of more than 10,000 students and no sounds other than the whistling winds and singing birds, the first meditation with Daaji was a magnificent experience. Dr. Anantha, Director of the UNESCO MGIEP, provided an introduction to kindness throughout his classes. Sessions on how to teach young children the importance of kindness should also be addressed. The day ended with a heart-to-heart conversation with Daaji, who gave the young people advice and left us with the words, “Never forget to communicate how you feel.”
Following the same morning routine, we had introductory meetings scheduled with Hon’ Meenakshi Lekhi, Dr. Venkatesh Murthy, Ricky Kej, and Rishab Shah. The kids learnt how to comprehend and speak the language of the heart at Heartful campus, Heartfulness communication, and other compassion programmes throughout the day. The panel discussion including Ammaraah Martinus, Ramesh Krishnan, and Arudra Rao gave the young people listening a new optimism that they might ignite.
The third day began as we inserted countless human beings into the womb of mother Earth, where they were caressed by the soil, kissed by the wind, pampered by the love of water, treasured by the warmth of sunlight, and the subject of a thousand silent, heartfelt prayers from the youth for a future filled with sustainability. Rajendra Singh, the youngest single parent in India, Avneesh Tiwari, and Alina Alam, the founder of Mitti Café, were the day’s heroes. Their tales were genuinely touching and motivating. With a closing statement and group photos with the several institutes present on campus, the conference said its final farewell.
We also noticed Mega Kitchen, which uses steam to prepare meals and operates on the autoclave principle. For weary eyes, the endless expanse of beautiful trees and bushes planted alongside the roads and all around the magnificent arena is nothing short of heavenly. Chandelier-like creepers, vibrant flowers, seats, and swings constructed of wooden planks all created the impression that we were in a fantasy.
The setting gave off a heavenly vibe, demonstrating to us the actual power of meditation. In one of his talks, Daaji said, “Meditation creates emptiness, which creates creativity, a concentrated mind, and bliss. As you immerse yourself in the path of meditation, be compassionate to the ideas that disturb your peace of mind.”
Management students from our institution took the crowd by storm and engaged the students with interactive management games. With immense response from the audience and such a positive attitude, the students came out rejuvenated, recharged and intrinsically motivated at the end of the three day event. Students have immensely enjoyed their insightful trip to Kanha Shantivanam and would go back to that spiritual hub again if given a chance.
The students are grateful to Dr. Nivedita Shreyans, Director PR, Pillai Group of Institutions; who was also the convenor of the Rising with Kindness summit and coordinator of Heartfulness campus to the students from all over the country. We would like to thank Mr. Ramesh Krishnan, Director, Heartfulness Campus, for organizing an event of this magnitude, and making us all abhyasis of the heartfulness way of meditation.
I’d like to close with these lovely words: “A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees.” As we gained knowledge of kindness, felt the touch of serenity, and wrapped ourselves in an embrace of relaxation via meditation.
Industrial Visit to Dehradun – Haridwar and Mussoorie
An Industrial Visit was organised for the students of PiMSR to Dehradun, Haridwar and Mussoorie from the 4th to 10th April, 2022. The students were taken to the Patanjali company where they were taught the scope of the retail sector in India. Patanjali is a successful brand which has exponentially grown in the last decade and remains amongst India’s top 10 FMCG brands promoting an active lifestyle and wellness. They were then taken to a visit to Forest Research Institute, Dehradun which is a heritage construction and India’s premier Forest Research Institute that works in the sustainable environment space. Enroute back to Delhi the students were taken to Rishikesh, the Yoga Capital of the World.
