The PIMSR Library proudly inaugurated the “PIMSR Book Club” on 7th November 2025, marking a new initiative to promote reading habits and literary engagement among students and faculty members.
The event commenced with an introductory address by Prof. Subhendu Bhattacharya, who welcomed the gathering and emphasized the significance of books and reading in shaping one’s intellect and creativity. This was followed by a welcome speech by Dr. R. Chandran, Director, PIMSR, who appreciated the library’s efforts in creating a platform that connects readers across disciplines.
The highlight of the ceremony was the keynote address by Dr. Daphne Pillai, Chairperson, Management Board, Mahatma Education Society. Dr. Pillai shared her experiences with book clubs and spoke about the vital role they play in building communities of readers. She underscored the importance of cultivating reading as a lifelong habit that enhances imagination, empathy, and leadership. Following her address, Dr. Daphne Pillai formally inaugurated the PIMSR Book Club through a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Ms. Tejaswini Karkhanis, Librarian, outlined the vision and objectives of the Book Club, encouraging participation in upcoming activities. A literature-themed crossword puzzle designed by Prof. Subhendu Bhattacharya added an engaging element, drawing enthusiastic participation from the faculty and students of PIMSR.
The success of the event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Book Club Team comprising Dr. Celina Joy, Dr. Krushna R. Sawant, Dr. Betty Sibil, Prof. Subhendu Bhattacharya, and Ms. Tejaswini Karkhanis. The team aims to take this initiative forward by organizing regular book discussions, reviews, and literary sessions that inspire the PIMSR community to cultivate a lifelong love for reading.
