A Session on “Salient Features of the Foreign Trade Policy and Registration Procedures for New Business Units.” was organised by IIC of PIMSR in association with IWFCi India National Chapter on 13th October 2025 at 12 noon for student entrepreneurs of Pillai College. The aim of the session was to create awareness on the policies for new startups. The Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) of India aims to enhance exports, boost ease of doing business, and integrate the Indian economy with global trade networks. Key features include incentives under schemes like RoDTEP and EPCG, export promotion through SEZs, simplified e-initiatives such as the DGFT online platform, and support for MSMEs and start-ups. The policy emphasizes sustainability, innovation, and digital trade facilitation. For new business units, registration involves obtaining an Importer Exporter Code (IEC) from DGFT, followed by registration with relevant Export Promotion Councils. This enables businesses to access trade benefits, participate in global markets, and expand export opportunities. Key aspects discussed included export promotion measures, incentives under the current Foreign Trade Policy, and step-by-step procedures for establishing new export-oriented businesses. Students actively participated in discussions, case examples, and real-world applications, making the session highly engaging and insightful. The session was well-received, with students showing great enthusiasm and curiosity about India’s export framework and business registration process. Overall, it was a productive and informative session. The benefit of the session was that it enhanced their understanding of global trade and entrepreneurship. 36 students and one IIC member attended the session.
