Report on Faculty Development Program – The Faculty Development Program on Newspaper Reading and Analysis via Business Standard App was conducted on 9th July 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research. The session was attended by 20 faculty members and focused on enhancing faculty awareness and usage of the Business Standard platform as a tool to stay updated and engage students effectively.

The session began with a welcome address and opening remarks by Dr. R. Chandran, who emphasized the importance of faculty being well-informed and updated on current affairs and trends. He highlighted that faculty members should act as reservoirs of knowledge, continually enriching themselves to guide and inspire students. He also introduced the concept of Engagement, Assignment, and Assessment, stressing the need to incorporate such dimensions into teaching pedagogy.

Following this, Prof. Siddharth Bose provided insights into effectively using the e-paper feature of Business Standard. He demonstrated how faculty can analyze business news and articles to create meaningful class discussions and assignments.

The resource person for the session, Mr. Sumesh Gupte, Senior Manager of Business Standard, conducted an engaging hands-on training session. He demonstrated the features of the Business Standard App, including:

  • Access to the daily e-paper for timely and reliable news
  • Information on case study competitions for students
  • Notifications about the latest webinars and events, updated daily
  • Strategies for using the app to engage students and enhance classroom discussions
  • Two students from PIMSR will be given the opportunity to serve as Campus Reporters for Business Standard.

Faculty members actively participated in exploring the app during the hands-on segment and shared their thoughts on how to integrate its resources into teaching and student engagement.

The FDP was informative and practical, enabling faculty to utilize the Business Standard App as an effective academic and engagement tool. The session concluded by Dr. Gopal, Registrar PIMSR with thanks to the resource person and appreciation for the initiative to bridge academic knowledge with current industry updates.
