Pillai University, School of Business (PG), organised an engaging grooming session titled “Grooming for Success” on 21 August 2026 at the university auditorium. The session was conducted for First Year MBA Students with the objective of helping them understand the importance of professional grooming, workplace etiquette, communication, and interview readiness.
The session was led by Ms. Sharon D’Mello, Head of ALPH – The Xanadu Academy & Sr. VP – Head L&D, who shared practical insights based on professional workplace expectations. The session focused on how an individual’s appearance, personal hygiene, body language, communication style, and overall professional conduct contribute to creating a positive first impression.
One of the key areas discussed was professional dressing. Students were introduced to the difference between business casuals and business formals for both men and women. The session highlighted appropriate clothing choices, grooming standards, accessories, footwear, and the importance of dressing according to the workplace or professional situation. Students also learned about important dos and don’ts of professional grooming.
Personal hygiene was another important aspect covered during the session. Practical points such as maintaining oral hygiene, avoiding unpleasant mouth odour, using deodorant appropriately, and maintaining overall cleanliness were discussed. The importance of a confident and professional handshake, appropriate body language, and presenting oneself confidently was also emphasised.
The session also touched upon makeup and personal presentation, particularly in the context of maintaining a neat, professional, and workplace-appropriate appearance. Students were encouraged to understand that grooming is not about following a particular style but about presenting oneself appropriately and confidently in professional environments.
A significant part of the session focused on professional communication and interview readiness. Students received guidance on how to draft professional emails correctly, including appropriate language, structure, tone, and etiquette.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of communication skills, confidence, first impressions, and professional behaviour during interviews.
Overall, the session provided students with practical knowledge that can be applied in interviews, internships, corporate interactions, and their future workplaces. It reinforced the idea that professional success is influenced not only by academic knowledge and technical skills but also by personal presentation, etiquette, communication, confidence, and workplace behaviour.
The session was an informative and interactive learning experience for the MBA students, helping them become more aware of the professional standards expected in the corporate world and preparing them to present sleeves with greater confidence and professionalism.
