Date: 20th & 21st July 2026
Duration: 2 Hours
Location: Pillai University – School of Business Computer Lab
Audience: MBA Students
As part of the MBA Orientation Programme, the School of Business, Pillai University successfully organized MockStock – A Real-Time Stock Market Simulation, offering first-year MBA students an immersive and experiential learning opportunity in stock market investing and portfolio management.
The activity was designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world financial markets. Students were divided into Groups A, B, C, and D, with each team nominating a representative responsible for executing buy and sell transactions. The remaining team members actively collaborated by analyzing market trends, evaluating company financials, interpreting market news, and recommending investment strategies. This collaborative approach fostered teamwork, leadership, analytical thinking, strategic decision-making, and effective communication.
The simulation platform featured over 200 listed companies representing major sectors of the economy, including Banking, Information Technology, FMCG, Pharmaceuticals, Automobile, Energy, Infrastructure, Healthcare, Telecom, and more. Students had access to comprehensive company information, including business overviews, financial statements, key financial indicators, and real-time market news. The platform replicated a live trading environment, with market data synchronized every five seconds, enabling participants to experience dynamic market movements and make informed, data-driven investment decisions.
During the two-hour simulation, students actively managed their portfolios, executed strategic trades, diversified investments across sectors, monitored market movements, and generated returns through well-informed investment decisions. The activity significantly enhanced their understanding of financial markets, portfolio management, risk assessment, sectoral analysis, investment planning, and trading psychology, while promoting healthy competition and collaborative learning.
The sessions were conducted on 20th July 2026 for Groups A and D, and on 21st July 2026 for Groups B and C.
The MockStock simulation emerged as one of the highlights of the MBA Orientation Programme, successfully providing students with practical exposure to the functioning of capital markets. The initiative strengthened financial literacy, enhanced analytical and decision-making skills, and inspired students to confidently apply theoretical concepts in a realistic investment environment. Such experiential learning initiatives reflect Pillai University’s commitment to developing industry-ready management professionals equipped with practical knowledge, critical thinking abilities, and financial acumen.
