Topic: Memorize and Color – Team Communication Challenge

As part of the MBA First Year Orientation Programme 2026–28 at Pillai University School of Business, an interactive group activity titled “Memorize and Color – Team Communication Challenge” was conducted to foster interaction and experiential learning among newly admitted students. The activity aimed to develop communication, teamwork, leadership, observation, memory, coordination, and the ability to share information accurately in a collaborative environment.
Students were divided into six teams and provided with a blank template and coloring materials. Initially, only the team leader was allowed to observe the original colored image for a limited time before returning to verbally describe it to the team. Subsequently, each team member was given an opportunity to view the original image and communicate additional details, corrections, or missing information verbally. Throughout the activity, participants relied exclusively on observation, memory, and verbal communication, without sketching or displaying the image to others. Each team was given 30 minutes to recreate the original image as accurately as possible.

At the end of the activity, the recreated images were compared with the original, followed by a reflective discussion on the communication process and the challenges encountered. The exercise highlighted the importance of active listening, effective communication, leadership, trust, collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making under time constraints. It also demonstrated how information can become distorted when passed through multiple individuals, reinforcing the need for clarity, coordination, and teamwork in organizational settings. Overall, the activity successfully strengthened team bonding while reinforcing essential managerial competencies required for academic and professional success.
