The Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research (PiMSR) organized its annual Community Service Day on 31st January 2026 at the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, New Panvel. This flagship initiative, consistently celebrated for the past 25 years, reflects PiMSR’s enduring commitment to fostering social responsibility, compassion, and meaningful community engagement among students. The event witnessed active participation from faculty members, student volunteers, distinguished guests, and students from PiMSR’s social partner, Zilla Parishad Gyan Jyoti Savitribai Phule School, Podi, creating a vibrant, inclusive, and purposeful atmosphere throughout the day.
As part of the Institute’s emphasis on care and responsibility, the school children were safely escorted from their school to the University campus by Social Service Committee student volunteers. Upon arrival, the children were warmly welcomed with chocolates, creating a friendly and comfortable environment and setting a positive tone for the program. An interactive introductory activity encouraged participation, confidence, and ease of communication between the children, volunteers, and organizers. The children were then escorted for lunch, where well-planned arrangements ensured their comfort, while informal interactions during the lunch session strengthened bonds and a sense of connection among all participants.
Following lunch, a formal inauguration and guest interaction session was conducted, adding depth and purpose to the celebrations. The ceremony was graced by Dr. Vasudevan Pillai, Dr. Daphne Pillai, and Ms. Wenonah Castellino as Guests of Honor, whose presence inspired students and volunteers alike. Dr. Daphne Pillai delivered a thoughtful address emphasizing the importance of community service, social responsibility, and sustained individual efforts in creating meaningful social impact. Her message encouraged students to view community engagement as a long-term commitment rather than a one-time activity.
Ms. Wenonah Castellino, Founder of the Don Bosco WTL Funtoosh Mela, shared her inspiring journey of working with special children, highlighting the need for patience, empathy, dedicated care, and inclusive opportunities. Her session sensitized participants to the importance of inclusive community development and reinforced values of empathy and respect for diversity.
The post-inauguration session featured a variety of fun and engaging activities aimed at promoting teamwork, enthusiasm, and active participation. Games such as book balancing, musical chairs, Chinese whisper, and word shuffling created a lively and joyful atmosphere. The children also participated in cultural and creative activities, including dance and singing performances, confidently showcasing their talents and receiving warm appreciation from faculty members and student volunteers, which further enhanced their self-confidence.
The event concluded with the distribution of gifts to all children as a token of love and appreciation. The closing moments were marked by smiles, photographs, and cheerful interactions, leaving lasting positive impressions on everyone present.
Overall, Community Service Day 2026 was successfully conducted and proved to be both meaningful and impactful. The celebration achieved its objectives of promoting empathy, inclusion, social awareness, and civic responsibility among students, while providing a joyful and enriching experience for the school children. The collective efforts of the guests, faculty members, and student volunteers ensured that the program was well-organized and truly memorable for all participants.
